WORKSHOPS

Would you like a tailored workshop for your group?

Small groups offer the advantage of sharing learning with other people in a similar situation or with common interests. Interaction is built in so we can talk about specific scenarios or topics relevant to your group, and have your questions answered.

Workshops are typically 90-120 minutes, but can be tailored to fit your needs. I cover the areas of gut health, banishing negative body talk, 'nature-relatedness' and food.

Contact me to discuss topics, availability and costs.

Gut Health Practices for Self Care

Do you constantly ask yourself: What can I eat and not suffer?

Do you watch your diet to help manage gut problems, or wonder if gut health is at the heart of other issues you are experiencing? This workshop is for anyone who is curious about gut health and wants to explore what you can do differently.

In this workshop we will not only explore how our environments and food influence our gut microbiome, but also how mindfulness practices to aid in the management of some gut conditions. Enhancing your body awareness might be the last thing you want to do when you have a pain in the gut, but there is some evidence that exercises that do this can be helpful. Emphasis will be on activities used to enhance body awareness that can be easily practised at home.

In this workshop you will:

  • Explore influences that impact the health of the gut microbiome

  • Learn the role of key dietary components in gut health

  • Try a range of activities used to enhance body awareness and for strengthening our mind-body connection

  • Taste a range of gut nourishing foods and/or beverages.

Banishing Negative Body TalK

Words matter! Have you ever thought about comments you or others make about our own or others body shape and size? Even when considered ‘friendly banter’, this type of talk can be problematic. Maybe you already know this, but find it difficult to stop, when everyone around you talks this way.

Language and comments about weight, body shape and size are referred to as ‘negative body talk’.

Negative Body Talk is a problem because:

  • It is a form of body shaming and contributes to body dissatisfaction

  • It intensifies weight and fat stigma

  • It contributes to mental health problems

This workshop introduces negative body talk as a problematic and harmful social phenomenon and demonstrates how (rather than being harmless) negative body talk, can reduce morale and have a serious impact on body confidence.

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn to recognize and avoid common forms of negative body talk

  • Understand why people engage in negative body talk

  • Practise practical ways to model positive body talk and shut down negative body talk.

This workshop is for anyone who wants to increase their confidence in using positive body talk to/about themselves, friends, work colleagues and family. If you want to influence the culture in your workplace, club or business, even better!

Nature Relatedness and food

At its worst, messaging about food and nutrition can be moralistic and overwhelming.

Eat healthy. Eat sustainably. Eat ethically. Do this. Avoid that! It is so easy to simply tune out.

That is why I am so attracted to the idea of combining a nature relatedness practice and food. Food is something that every one of us has to incorporate into our own bodies every single day. There is ample opportunity to contemplate our relationship with food.

A Nature Relatedness practice helps you to see yourself AS nature. When it’s in you, not out there, your whole perspective changes and gradually your behaviour in all areas of your life becomes more ecofriendly, not just with food.

The Nature Relatedness and Food workshop introduces the concept of nature relatedness, and what it means to bring a nature relatedness practice to food.

In this workshop you will:

  • Understand what it means to start a nature relatedness (NR) practice with food

  • Learn the foundation skills to build a NR practice with food

  • Share a seasonally relevant food-based NR activity

  • Reflect on your current and future activities that could fit into a regular NR practice
